WHat Should I be accomplishing In lIFE?
It’s a question that keeps men awake at night. Am I doing what I’m supposed to do? Am I wasting my life? What does God actually expect from me?
If you’ve ever felt that tension, you’re not alone. Almost every man wrestles with it at some point—because deep down we all know life isn’t just about making money, staying busy, or checking boxes. We were created for something bigger.
The good news? God hasn’t left us guessing. While He may not hand you a step-by-step blueprint for every decision, the Bible gives clear guidance on what His will looks like for every man who follows Him—and how He can lead you personally within that framework.
Before you stress about whether you’re on the “right path,” it’s worth stepping back to see what God says about His will for your life. It’s far less mysterious than you think, but far more challenging (and rewarding) than chasing your own plans.
The Bible talks about God’s will in two main ways:
God’s revealed will — what He clearly says for all believers.
God’s specific guidance — how He may lead you personally within those boundaries.
Here’s what Scripture says about God’s will for every believer’s life:
1. To know Him and trust Him
“This is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” (John 17:3)
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5–6)
2. To live a holy life
“It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality…” (1 Thessalonians 4:3)
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2)
3. To give thanks in all circumstances
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
4. To do good and love others
“For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.” (1 Peter 2:15)
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart… Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37–39)
5. To make disciples and live on mission
“Go and make disciples of all nations… teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19–20)
Finding God’s will for your life isn’t about cracking a secret code—it’s about walking closely with Him. When you focus on knowing Him, living holy, giving thanks, loving others, and making disciples, you’re already right where He wants you.
The rest? That’s where His specific guidance comes in. You don’t have to figure out every detail on your own. As you trust Him in these clear areas, He’ll direct your steps in the personal ones—career decisions, relationships, opportunities, and the daily choices that shape your future.
So instead of asking, “What big thing should I accomplish?” start asking, “How can I faithfully follow Jesus today?” When you live that way, your life won’t just be successful in the world’s eyes—it will be significant in God’s eyes.
